navabi magazine – 10 tips for the office

To help with dressing for the office, the fashion editors of navabi have come together to provide our top 10 tips:

– When wearing patterned pieces, combine with sleek, plain coloured items to create a sophisticated look. Although clashing pattern combinations might be on trend, it can sometimes look a little too much for the office. Remember, the attention should be on you and your work rather than your outfit!

– During the summer bright colours are great for helping to bring some sunshine into work. Pair lemon yellows, coral, pinks, light greens and others with a muted tone like black, beige or grey to avoid looking too overpowering.

– If you are required to wear a trouser or skirt suit, then rely on pale colours and lighter fabrics in Spring / Summer. Look to finish the look with a silk top for underneath the blazer.

– Finish any work outfit with a classic trench coat in beige, black or blue. Whether worn with a blouse and skirt, shift dress or trouser suit, this piece will always keep you looking stylish yet business ready.

– If you are unsure about bringing too much of the catwalk into the office, go with the classic monochrome look of pairing black and white. If you feel the need, then relax the outfit a little by adding a pale colour instead of the white.

– When going for a more competent look, investing in classics is always the best way forward. A white blouse paired with a blazer in a darker shade always promises to deliver a professional look each time.

– Even if your office has no set dress code, we’d still recommend following a few guidelines for official events, conferences and appointments with clients and customers. Trouser or skirt suits are always a good option for something important. Colours should be kept to the safe side with blue, grey, beige and black; and in the summer, paler and brighter colours work as well.

– When considering your neckline and considering your femininity, less is more in the workplace. A general rule is that the bigger the event, the lower the neckline can be. By day at the office however, it is better to wear high-fastening necklines.

– For skirts and dresses, there is a golden rule you can usually rely on: the hem should not be further than a hand’s width above the knee. Any shorter and we would highly recommend tights in the majority of offices.

– If your workplace comes with no set dress code, then jeans are usually an outfit essential. Ideal companions for this look are tailored blazers, fine-knit cardigans and premium-quality accessories to lift the outfit from being too casual.
