99 teams from 77 universities and 24 countries took part in this year“s DATA MINING CUP (DMC for short), an annual competition put on by prudsys AG since 2000. The 14th DATA MINING CUP started on 03.04.2013. For six weeks, participating students had the opportunity to test their theoretical data mining know-how by way of two practical tasks.
The classic data mining task consisted of using historical and real anonymous shop data from sessions and which contained information, whether or not the session ultimately resulted in an order for the shopping basket or not, to develop a model that could predict orders in further sessions in the same shop.

The second task was to implement an agent that can predict the probability of an order during a session based on each individual transaction.

99 teams from 77 universities and 24 countries took part in this student competition. Prudsys will publish who are some of the best up-and-coming data miners during its 2013 User Days. For 14 years, this two-day event, which will take place in Berlin from 2 to 3 July 2013, has been providing information about news, trends and technological developments relating to data mining as well as innovative business cases for retail today and tomorrow.
