The 12th DATA-MINING-CUP is launched with two tasks for the first time

The 12th edition of the world’s largest data mining competition starts today with a première: for the first time in the history of the DATA-MINING-CUP, the participants can not only measure their data analysis expertise with one task – they now have two tasks to solve. In addition to the classic data mining exercise, the second task covers a real-time data mining problem that can be solved by developing an adaptive algorithm. prudsys will publish who are some of the best up-and-coming data miners during its 2011 user days on 21 June 2011.

It is impossible to consider e-commerce today without product recommendations based on real-time analysis. Recommendations are also the focus of the current DATA-MINING-CUP for which students from Germany and other countries are invited in spring each year to test their data mining expertise using a practical example.
For the first time in the history of the DATA-MINING-CUP the DMC competition is made up of two tasks. This year we are looking both for the best analysis model that forecasts transactions in a shopping session and in a second task also for an algorithm that dynamically evaluates web shop data and submits its implementation.
The students have a total of six weeks to solve either one or both tasks. The two tasks will be assessed independently of each other.

To date 69 teams from 58 educational establishments and 15 countries have already registered their participation. Those interested in taking part can still register online until the deadline for submitting the results, i.e. 31.05.2011.

Attractive financial and other prizes are awaiting the three best teams.
The best up-and-coming data miners will be announced at the 2011 prudsys User Days. This two-day event, which this year takes place from 21 to 22 June 2011 at pentahotel Leipzig, has been providing information about news, trends and technological developments relating to data mining for 12 years. The focus is again on innovative business cases from prudsys AG and its partners.
