For more effective personalization of sales and offers, mysportgroup GmbH, operating premium online shops mysportworld and shopping club mysportbrands, relies on the realtime analytics recommendation system from data mining specialist prudsys AG. After a short implementation time and three-month testing and optimization phase, the prudsys Realtime Decisioning Engine (prudsys RDE) is now generating product recommendations with even more personal relevance for its customers.

With the motto „From Athletes For Athletes“, through their premium online store mysportworld and shopping club mysportbrands, mysportgroup GmbH offers apparel and equipment for sports activities, outdoor gear and athletic lifestyle products. Founded in 2010 by Albert Schwarzmeier and Erik Pfannmöller, both online shops place special emphasis on providing high-quality products with unsurpassed customer service.

To align the portfolio of over 300 top sport brands even more closely to the interests of its customers, the Berlin-based company brought on prudsys AG, specialist for real-time recommendations systems, in September of last year. Within a few weeks, the prudsys Realtime Decisioning Engine |Recommendations (prudsys RDE | RE) integrated into both online shops and went live in October 2011. Working on a real-time basis, the recommendation engine analyzes the historical and current buying and browsing behavior of customers on the online shops and provides them with product and purchase recommendations that closely match their needs. The system underwent a rigorous three-month testing period and was optimized for the unique requirements of mysportgroup and its online operations.

Unlike traditional online shops, the shopping club mysportsbrands constantly varies its the selection of products that are offered exclusively for club members at heavily discounted prices.
„We were looking for a recommendation system that works well with this ever-changing product pricing strategy and is able to generate high-quality recommendations, even in a volatile environment and changing from season to season“, Erik Pfannmöller says, world champion in single kayaking and one of the managing directors of mysportgroup GmbH, citing the decision towards prudsys RDE.

As prudsys RDE | RE takes not only historical data into account, but also analyzes the current behavior of customers in the calculating the recommendations, and prudsys RDE is also suitable for use in online shops that have a constantly changing assortment and product offers. The system also fulfills various requirements like marketing, considering the minimum prices, and uses availability filters so that the recommendations, for example, should still be available in at least 60% of all sizes.

„Through implementation of prudsys RDE in both our online shops, we could see significant increases in up- and cross-selling potential of our products, as well as the added value of offering customers product recommendations that were closely related to their purchasing interests“, Pfannmöller explains. „Offers in our future newsletters, thanks to prudsys RDE, can now be more effectively targeted towards the recipients“, he adds.
