Karl-Heinz Land has been a member of the supervisory board at prudsys AG since November 2012. The Digital Darwinist & Evangelist is the founder and CEO of neuland and has held various management positions at companies including Oracle, Business Objects, Microstrategy, GrandCentrix and Voice Objects. He now brings his over 25 years of experience in the field of IT and e-commerce to the supervisory board of the realtime analytics specialist, prudsys.
With six months as a member of the supervisory board of the company behind him, he talks about the importance of personalisation and real time technologies in the age of Big Data and increasing digitalisation.

Mr. Land, the topic of Big Data is frequently discussed in the media. What challenges do we face?

„Data are becoming the most significant resource of the digital world. In virtually any area, whether it“s medicine, transport, the finance sector, trade or even social networking, the challenge we face is how to record, meaningfully evaluate and use huge amounts of data. The demands placed on systematic evaluation increase because relevant and high quality analytical data need to be made available to the user and adapted to his requirements as quickly as possible in real time.

In other words, much data is useless if they cannot be utilized for one“s own purposes. Even in business, content tailored to the individual interests of customers is becoming increasingly important. What potential do you see for the future?

„In business it is important that customers receive offers that really interest them, in other words, offers that are personalised. If a customer has to spend ages looking through a jungle of products, whether in an actual physical shop or in an online shop using a smartphone, he usually cuts the shopping short. In my opinion, recommendations will replace searching as the paradigm of the future. The customer gets the right offer immediately, without having to search for it. Recommendations through friends, social networks, intelligently distributed agents or simply by personalising the website, create brand new, previously unconceivable areas of application and solutions within the different channels.“

How can we meet these demands?

„To offer the customer a customised shopping experience with content that adapts and is personalised in real time, many businesses in Germany are already using prudsys solutions, especially in the online sector. This is made possible through self-learning algorithms that react to the behaviour and preferences of the customer in real time. The goal is to further link personalised offers to one another on the different dealer channels in order to serve the customer in the best possible way.
It is conceivable that personalised information will be used in virtually all areas of life in the future. For example, intelligent agents that provide the user with individual suggestions to help in real time decision-making in daily life.“
